Ceramic vs. carbon tint: how to compare the film

Compare tint by measured performance, appearance and driving needs instead of assuming the material name answers every question.

Is ceramic tint better than carbon tint?

Ceramic tint uses ceramic particles in the film to reduce transmitted solar energy. Carbon tint uses carbon-based technology to control light and solar heat. Both are thin films fitted to the glass; neither is a ceramic coating for paint. To choose between them, compare the exact products at a similar visible light transmission (VLT). Look at heat rejection, glare, the view after dark and price. A darker film is not automatically better at reducing heat. Get a quote.

How much heat and UV does XR Plus block?

XPEL's PRIME USA specification sheet lists separate values for VLT, solar energy, IR rejection, UV rejection and glare reduction by variant. The listed XR PLUS variants show 99% UV rejection in that specification, while VLT and infrared values vary by shade. Check the row for the shade you’re considering. These figures apply to those XPEL films; a carbon film or a different ceramic product needs its own data for a fair comparison.

Match the choice to your drive

If cabin heat and glare are your primary concerns, ask how the proposed film's measured solar and infrared performance fits your glass and use. If appearance, privacy or a particular shade matters most, discuss nighttime visibility and the legal light-transmission requirement together. Existing factory privacy glass can make the final reading and appearance different from the film alone.

Does Auto Vos install carbon tint?

We install XPEL PRIME XR Plus ceramic window tint. Our comparison guide helps you weigh that against carbon films you may be considering elsewhere. If you’re comparing quotes, ask for the exact film and shade from each shop, then compare heat rejection, visibility, price and warranty. A darker sample does not automatically mean better heat reduction. Get a quote.
